Carpal tunnel syndrome is when the median nerve gets compressed while it is traveling through the wrist.  The most common cause of this compression is from swelling.  Repetitive motions, like typing or any motions of the wrist that you do over and over. This is especially true of actions when your hands are lower than your wrist.  Some of the most common symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome are as follows:

  • numbness, tingling, and pain in your thumb and the first three fingers of your hand.
  • pain and burning that travels up your arm.
  • wrist pain at night that interferes with sleep.
  • weakness in the muscles of the hand.

So you think you might have Carpal tunnel syndrome? What should you do?   Well most guidelines recommend conservative, non surgical care first.  The Chiropractic approach is to provide gentle adjustments to the wrists and soft tissue work as needed to the involved muscles.  A recent study published in the October 2018  Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) found that chiropractic care had a positive impact on patients with CTS.   So remember, the sooner you start treatment the faster and better the outcomes.  If you would like to see if we can help just click the get started button below.
