Medicine Ball Exercise Description
The Russian Twist is an excellent medicine ball exercise for rotational core strength and endurance. If you have lower back issues it is probably best to avoid this movement; however, when it is performed properly it is an excellent movement.
Medicine Ball Exercise Steps
- Grab medicine ball and pull it close to your chest.
- Lift your legs several inches while in a seated position on the ground and lean back slightly. If that’s too difficult, leave your heals down.
- Keep a flat back as you rotate from side to side. Touch the ground with the medicine ball on each side and folow the medicine ball with your chin. Exhale as you twist. Avoid twisting too far and slouching, or rounding forward when you twist, as this could stress your lumbar spine.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
