New Study says no need to limit red & processed meat.
A new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine is going against a long held recommendation that people should cut back on the amount of red and processed meat they eat for health reasons. The scientists found that the existing guidelines from leading health groups to limit red and processed meats are “weak recommendations” that are based on “low-certainty evidence.”
So how can scientists look at the same studies and come up with different conclusions. Well, the scientists in the new study used a system called GRADE. GRADE is used to determine the quality of the study therefore the quality of the results. It is from applying this system to the previous studies that the scientists have come to the conclusion that the recommendation to cut back on red and processed meat is based on weak evidence. As you might guess, not everyone is on board with these new recommendations. There are many who are baffled with the finding.
As for me, I’ll just keep eating my whole food diet which includes unprocessed red meat. I’ll take my chances like all of the cultures that ate red meat before us. 🙂
