Causes of Knee Pain

The knee joint is the largest joint in the human body. It is a hinge joint that connects the femur (thigh bone), tibia (shin bone), and patella (kneecap). The knee is crucial for movement, weight-bearing, and stability, making it one of the most complex and frequently used joints. It is supported by ligaments, cartilage (including the menisci), and muscles to allow bending, straightening, and slight rotation.

Injuries:

  1. Ligament Injuries (ACL, MCL, LCL, PCL tears) – Often caused by sudden stops, pivots, or direct blows.
  2. Meniscus Tear – A torn cartilage (meniscus) can occur from twisting or heavy lifting.
  3. Patellar Tendonitis (“Jumper’s Knee”) – Overuse injury causing inflammation in the patellar tendon.
  4. Bursitis – Inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs) due to repeated pressure or trauma.

Degenerative & Chronic Conditions:

  1. Osteoarthritis – Wear-and-tear arthritis causing cartilage breakdown.
  2. Chondromalacia Patella – Softening of cartilage under the kneecap, common in younger adults.

Overuse & Muscle Imbalances:

  1. Iliotibial (IT) Band Syndrome – Tight IT band rubbing against the knee, common in runners.
  2. Weak or Imbalanced Muscles – Can cause improper knee alignment and pain.

How We Help!

  • Adjusting the Knee Joint
Gentle adjustments to the knee to improve alignment, reduce inflammation, and enhance joint mobility. Misalignments in the knee can cause pain and dysfunction, and adjustments help restore proper function.
  • Addressing Spinal & Pelvic Alignment
The knee doesn’t work in isolation—it relies on proper alignment of the spine, hips, and pelvis. We can identify and correct misalignments that may be contributing to knee strain and pain.
  • Reducing Inflammation & Improving Blood Flow
soft tissue techniques can help reduce inflammation around the knee joint, improving circulation and speeding up the healing process.
  • Strengthening Supporting Muscles
We often incorporate rehabilitation exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee. Strengthening these muscles improves stability and reduces stress on the joint, preventing future injuries.

We’ve helped hundreds of people overcome knee pain by correcting the underlying cause.  To see if we can help you click the get started button below to request a consultation.
